I’ve been forced to explain homosexuality to my kids (aged 3 and 4) because their uncle is gay. This incredibly difficult and traumatic experience went as follows:
Child: Why does Uncle Bob go everywhere with Pete?
Me: Because they’re in love, just like Mummy and Daddy are.
Child: Oh. Can I have a biscuit? We’re all scarred for life. Scarred, I tell you.

Death for 50 Rupees
“While worldwide the numbers of heroin users is constantly increasing, another much more disturbing form of drug abuse is growing steadily, yet largely unrecognized. Pharmaceuticals, especially opium derivatives, meant for a totally different clientele, are on the rise to dominate the drug market in 3rd world and threshold countries.”
Photojournalist Enrico Fabian’s photos and words tell a powerful story about this growing phenomenon in India, where acquiring these drugs “is as easy as buying cough syrup at the supermarket.”
This is great.
Into the Wild (2007)
Analysis of the wild sweet pea, given as the cause of Chris’s death in the film, turned up no toxic compounds and there is not a single account in modern medical literature of anyone being poisoned by this species of plant. As one journalist put it: “He didn’t find a way out of the bush, couldn’t catch enough food to survive, and simply starved to death.”

Screw it! I joined tumblr.
Well here it is, I’ve joined tumblr.
There’s no particular reason why I’ve decided today is the day, no bandwagon-jumping or reaction against my other social networks. As yet, I still have very little knowledge of how to use the service and how it can be particularly useful to me and in my life. A cursory google search gave me this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tumbler
Yeah…thanks Internet.
Anyway, after another search I found tumblr is currently the leading blogging site after a rapid rise to power over Wordpress. Likely because of it’s easy usability for fun content, example: http://teenagemutantninjanoses.tumblr.com/
Seriously, I know of no other micro-blogging format that allows this kind of divine nonsense with such ease and flair.
The main reason for my joining is that I already visit a lot of tumblr blogs that are journalism related, art related and silliness related. And honestly, I’m intrigued. As a writer and journalist I can’t afford to let such things pass me by.
This is just a test post, more will follow as I get to know the format where I’ll expand some more on my life and my misadventures with tumblr.
Until then, here’s a spelling fail/win picture to look at:

Can’t stop the rock! Not even for waste disposal.
